Russian Presidential Elections (2012)

Makhachkala, RUSSIA, 2012 - Election day for the Russian presidential elections in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan in the North Caucasus. During our tour of the city, only polling station #1093 refused to let us in. Otherwise, we were welcomed everywhere with open arms (after we had wrestled our way through a cordon of heavily armed police officers at every entrance). All the polling stations had a similar layout: a place for the head and the secretary, a row of tables for the administrators and a row of tables for the monitors. There was often also a canteen stocked with an enormous number of sandwiches, which  to our surprise  no one ate. Over the course of the day we visited 16 polling stations..
